While the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Halloween may be jump scares and blood from horror movies, there are plenty of Halloween classics for those who don’t enjoy being scared.
Hocus Pocus: Perhaps the most classic Halloween movie, this is perfect for watching with your family, and won't give you nightmares if you watch it on your own. This movie tells the story of the Sanderson sisters and highlights the Salem Witch Trials. It is a fun and lighthearted movie that you will be sure to enjoy.
Nightmare Before Christmas: There is some debate if this movie is a Christmas or Halloween movie, but since the movie is about how Jack Skellington tries to steal Christmas for Halloween, Halloween clearly takes priority in this movie. This Tim Burton movie is another family friendly movie that will make you smile.
Ghostbusters: A little more on the spooky side but not scary enough that it crosses anywhere near horror. This movie also has some more adult humor, while it is rated PG, the original film was made in the 80s so some of the humor is more mature.
The Addams Family: This movie exploded with popularity after the hit Netflix show, “Wednesday.” The show follows the character Wednesday Addams, and is a sequel to the original Addams Family movie.
Coraline: Similar to “Nightmare Before Christmas” this is an animated classic, though it is more scary and less lighthearted than “Nightmare Before Christmas.” Coraline is essentially held hostage in a parallel universe and has to fight to return to reality. The animation of this movie is really creepy and can definitely give you some Halloween horror.
Haunted Mansion: While not technically a Halloween movie, this new Disney movie fits the vibes perfectly. It has some elements of suspense that can seem a little scary, but overall is a funny and spooky Disney film.
Scooby Doo: Everyone loves a good mystery. The Scooby Doo gang is brought together to solve mysteries on Spooky Island in this movie. This movie is a classic Scooby Doo story that combines the suspense of mystery as well as the humor of the Scooby Doo gang.
No matter what you choose to watch this Halloween, whether it be a teeth-chattering horror movie, or an animated movie that sets the fall and Halloween vibes, take time to enjoy the movie. Sometimes there is no better way to hang out with friends or family than enjoying a movie together.
