On Tuesday, the UAlbany men's soccer team defeated Colgate 2-1 on the road to close out their non-conference schedule.

UAlbany had a very strong defensive performance. The Great Danes outshot Colgate 14-1 overall, holding the Colgate Raiders to only one shot in the entirety of the match and controlling 60% of the possessions in the first half. Colgate earned the first goal and their only shot of the match in the 21st minute from Edward Bass, who one-touched a shot from the middle of the UAlbany box, soaring past UAlbany goalkeeper Shafique Wilson.

In the 35th minute, the Great Danes created a great scoring opportunity when Pantelis Panteli fired a deep shot that rolled through the Colgate defense missing just off the left post. UAlbany’s first goal came on a Andrew Weiner shot off a lead pass from Giuliano Lucca in the 60th minute. With that goal, Andrew Weiner earned his third score of the season and has matched Haflidi Sigurdarson for the team lead in goals scored.

Three minutes later, Guillermo Mijancos put UAlbany up 2-1, scoring his first goal of the season driving the ball into the bottom left corner with the assist from Vinicius Giannaccini, who made his first start of the season.

In the final 30 seconds of the match, the Raiders earned a free kick with one last chance to send the game into overtime, but Shafique Wilson was able to hold onto the ball to secure the win for the Great Danes.

UAlbany Head Coach Trevor Gorman spoke on the hard-fought win, "It's always a big challenge to win away in October and we showed great character to come from behind,” said Gorman. It was a tricky matchup and full credit to Colgate, they're always a program that plays to the highest standard...All focus goes to the conclusion of conference play now."

With this win, UAlbany will travel to Vermont on Saturday to take on the Catamounts in a conference matchup.
