The UAlbany men's soccer team traveled to Binghamton Saturday to take on the Bearcats. After a 0-0 draw on the road against the Great Danes remain unbeaten in America East play through three games.
In the first half, both teams played fairly evenly. The Bearcats and Great Danes each had three shots on target, but Binghamton held a narrow 6-5 edge in shots taken. Each team also drew three corner kicks, and both goalkeepers recorded three saves. UAlbany top goal scorer, forward Saad Fiaz, led the team with shots on goal with 2.
The first bite of action occurred early on as UAlbany’s Tiago Dias ripped a shot into the Binghamton box. The ball was deflected by Binghamton goalkeeper Mats Roorda and out of bounds for a corner kick late in the first half.
In the second half the Danes put on the pressure and five corner kicks were won as a result.
Binghamton narrowly extended its lead over the Great Danes in shots taken after halftime, outshooting them 6-4.
Despite numerous opportunities created by the Great Danes, UAlbany's defense held strong and the game ended 0-0. With seven saves, Shafique Wilson earned his third clean sheet in a row for UAlbany.
Coach Gorman was impressed by the team’s defense despite the draw. “It was good to record another shutout on the road tonight,” said Gorman. “We controlled the game, created chances, and probably deserved the three points, but that's how it can be sometimes in our sport.”
Up next for the Danes is a three-game home stand that starts Tuesday, October 11 against Army West Point.
