On Feb. 8, HERO Sports released their list of the 2021 Preseason All-American Team. University at Albany’s own, Linebacker Levi Metheny, secured his spot on the team in the defensive portion.

Metheny is a 6-foot redshirt Senior with an impressive reputation. His selection comes as no surprise, as he has long been a star for the Great Danes.

In his debut season in 2017, Metheny appeared in all 11 games, mostly on special teams. He finished the year with an impressive 23 recorded tackles, 10 of which were solo.

In 2018, Metheny appeared in all 11 games again, this time as a defensive regular. He recorded 48 solo tackles and 92 total tackles.

The last time Metheny took the field, in 2019, the linebacker had a conference leading total of 63 solo tackles, including a season-high of 12 tackles in three different games. His work in the 2019 season earned him two prestigious honors, including a spot on the Postseason All-CAA Second Team Defense.

Given his progress over the last few years, it is likely that we will see even greater accomplishments coming from Metheny in the 2021 season.

In addition to Metheny’s accolades, the Great Danes were ranked 12th in the 2021 HERO Sports preseason poll, which is the highest rank in the program’s history and marks a jump 12 places forward since the 2020 poll, which was released before the season was postponed.

The Spring 2021 season is set to start March 5, at the University of New Hampshire.
