The University at Albany Women’s Basketball Team was ranked at the top of the America East Preseason Coaches Poll on Wednesday with 59 total votes and seven for first place.
The Great Danes concluded last season with a 23-9 record, winning the American East Conference Championship against the Maine Black Bears to punch their ticket into the NCAA Tournament. The Preseason All-Conference Team included returning stat leaders: senior Helene Haegerstrand and junior Kayla Cooper.
Cooper returns with a team-high in rebounds over 7.5 rebounds per game, 84 offensive, and 153 defensive total. Haegerstrand led the Great Danes in scoring with 11.8 points per game, along with a 38% three-point percentage.
UAlbany’s season opener is scheduled for Nov. 11, on the road against Merrimack Warriors. The Warriors finished off last season 9-17.
