This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:

Tuesday, Feb. 25:


Women’s golf kicked off their Spring 2025 season at the Babs Steffens Invitational in DeBary, Florida, on Monday and Tuesday. They finished the tournament tied for 9th out of 12 teams, and finished 95 over par. Freshman Jessica Brown led the way for the Great Danes, finishing tied for twenty-first overall as an individual and ending the tournament 16 over par. Their next tournament will be at the Bama Beach Bash Invitational from March 16-18 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.


Thursday, Feb. 27:


Men’s basketball beat UMBC 78-74 in Baltimore, Maryland. The team shot 45.9 percent from the field on 28-61 shooting, going 10-24 from 3-point arc and went 12-18 on free-throw attempts. Bryon Joshua led the team with 22 points. Justin Neely finished the game with 13 points and Amar’e Marshall finished the game with 11 points. Marshall and Kacper Klaczek both led the team with four assists each. The Great Danes improved their record to 15-14 and improved to 7-7 in conference play.


Women’s basketball beat UMBC 68-60 during their Autism Awareness game. The team shot 58.3 percent from the field on 28-48 shooting, going 1-6 from the 3-point arc and 11-20 on free throw attempts. Kayla Cooper led the team with 19 points. Jessica Tomasetti finished the game with 18 points. Kaci Donovan finished the game with 11 points. Cooper led the team with four assists. The Great Danes improved their record to 23-5, with a record of 13-2 in conference play.


NOTE: With Thursday’s win, the women’s basketball team was named the America East Conference regular season champions and clinched the No. 1 seed for the 2025 conference tournament. 


Friday, Feb. 21:


Softball competed at The Spring Games tournament in Madeira Beach, Florida this weekend. The team lost to Bellarmine 4-1. The Great Danes recorded two hits. Sara Anderson and Charlotte Lomb both led the team with one hit each. Lomb also recorded the one-and-only RBI for the Great Danes. Deanna Grahek recorded the lone run for the Great Danes. Kate Powers pitched 7.0 innings, recorded three strikeouts, and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes fell to a record of 0-6.  


Softball lost Bethune-Cookman 2-1 at The Spring Games. The Great Danes recorded four hits. Four Great Danes led the team with one hit each. Vanessa Meyers recorded the lone RBI for the Great Danes. Kaitlyn Parisi recorded the lone hit for the Great Danes. Hailey Errichiello pitched 6.0 innings, recorded four strikeouts and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes fell to a record of 0-7.  


Baseball beat Longwood 9-8 in Farmville, Virginia for their first win of the season. The Great Danes recorded 11 hits. Ryan Ferremi led the team with three RBIs and three hits. Logan Morris and Levi McAllister both recorded two RBIs each. Morris and Justin Hurd both recorded two hits each. Hurd, Luke Filippi and John Vitucci all led the team with two runs each. Dylan Banner pitched 5.1 innings and recorded five strikeouts. Tyler Kneller pitched 2.1 innings and recorded four strikeouts. Thomas Quinn pitched 1.1 innings, recorded one strikeout and earned the win. The Great Danes improved their record to 1-3.  



Saturday, March 1:


Men’s lacrosse lost to UMass 10-9. The Great Danes took 39 shots and recorded 17 turnovers. Silas Richmond led the team with three goals. Jackson Palumb scored two goals. Four other Great Danes each scored one goal. Alex Pfieffer, Ben Wimmer and Brendan O’Keefe all led the team with one assist each. Goalkeeper Brady Smith recorded 13 saves. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 1-3.


Women’s lacrosse beat Colgate 15-14 for their first win of the season. The Great Danes took 38 shots, and recorded 13 turnovers. Dylana Williams and Courtney Rowe both led the team with five goals each. Mikaela Mooney scored three goals and Gracie McCauley scored two goals. Mooney led the team with four assists. Goalkeeper Grace Cincebox recorded three saves and Quinn McCarthy recorded two saves. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 1-4.


Women’s basketball beat NJIT 73-52 during their Senior Night celebration game and in their final game of the regular season. The team shot 53.4 percent from the field on 31-58 shooting, going 6-18 from the 3-point arc and 5-10 on free throw attempts. Kaci Donovan led the team with 19 points. Jessica Tomasetti finished the game with 18 points. Kayla Cooper finished the game with 12 points. Cooper led the team with eight assists. The Great Danes finished the regular season with a record of 24-5 and a record of 14-2 in conference play.


Men’s basketball  beat NJIT 86-59 in Newark, New Jersey. The team shot 55.7% from the field on 34-61 shooting, going 11-28 from 3-point arc and went 7-13 on free-throw attempts. Byron Joshua led the team with 17 points. Kacper Klaczek finished the game with 16 points. Amar’e Marshall, DeMarr Langford Jr. and Bautista Giralt all finished the game with 10 points each. Joshua led the team with seven assists. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 16-14, with a record of 8-7 in conference play.


Softball lost to Butler 8-2 during their second day at The Spring Games. The Great Danes recorded five hits. Five Great Danes all led the team with one hit each. Taylor Quinn and Caitlyn Frederick both recorded one RBI each. Sara Scozzari and Ava Beal both recorded one run each. Dominique Prevette pitched 2.2 innings and Hayley Wieczerzak pitched 4.1 innings, recorded three strikeouts and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes fell to a record of 0-8.   


Softball lost to Butler 3-1 during their second day at The Spring Games. The Great Danes recorded six hits. Ava Beal led the team with three hits. Three Great Danes recorded one hit each. Sara Anderson recorded the lone RBI for the Great Danes. Kaitlyn Parisi scored the lone run for the Great Danes. Hailey Errichiello pitched 6.0 innings, recorded one strikeout and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes fell to a record of 0-9.  


Baseball lost to Longwood 15-4 in eight innings in Farmville, Virginia. The Great Danes recorded nine hits. Ryan Ferremi led the team with two RBIs. Levi McAllister and Justin Hurd both recorded one RBI each. Louis Kaleb led the team with two hits. Seven Great Danes all recorded one hit each. McAllister, Hurd, Cooper Loyal and Victor Mazzara all recorded one run each. Kyle McCaffrey pitched 3.0 innings and Matthew Mariano pitched 4.0 innings, recorded one strikeout and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes fell to a record of 1-4. 


Baseball beat Longwood 10-7 in Farmville, Virginia. The Great Danes recorded 14 hits. Thomas McElwee led the team with four RBIs. Anthony Scarabino recorded two RBIs. McElwee, Scarabino, Justin Hurd, Ryan Ferremi and John Vitucci all led the team with two hits each.  Ferremi and Scarabino both led the team with two runs each. Six Great Danes recorded one run each. Ryan Pittz pitched 4.2 innings and recorded five strikeouts. Mark Gajowski pitched 4.1 innings, recorded six strikeouts and earned the win. The Great Danes improved their record to 2-4. 


Sunday, March 2:



Softball beat Bethune-Cookman 5-4 in eight innings for their first win of the season in their final day at The Spring Games. The Great Danes recorded seven hits. Sara Anderson, Mary Kate Murray and Kristina Langdon all led the team with one RBI each. Charlotte Lomb led the team with two hits. Five Great Danes all recorded one hit each. Five Great Danes all recorded one run each. Hailey Errichiello pitched 2.0 innings and  recorded one strikeout. Kate Powers pitched 6.0 innings, recorded three strikeouts and earned the win. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 1-9.   


Baseball beat Longwood 16-12 in Farmville, Virginia. The Great Danes recorded 16 hits. Levi McAllister led the team with three RBIs. Four Great Danes all recorded two RBIs each. Anthony Scarabino and Victor Mazzara both led the team with three hits each. Four Great Danes all recorded two hits each. McAllister, Mazzara and Micheal Maggio all lead the team with three runs each. Christian Mello pitched 3.1 innings and recorded four strikeouts. Thomas Quinn pitched 2.0 innings, recorded two strikeouts and earned the win. The Great Danes’ record now stands at 3-4.  


The men’s and women’s track and field team competed in their final indoor meet of the season at the Last Chance Indoor Qualifier meet in Boston, Massachusetts this weekend. 


For the women, Stephanie Green placed first in the weight throw with a mark of 19.54m. 

For the men, Travis Robinson placed first in shot put with a mark of 17.73m. Qualiar Newton placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 19.64m. Tooni Ogunyeye placed fourth in the 200m race with a time of 21.41 and Hassan Abidi placed seventh in the 800m race with a time of 1:49.02
