This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:

Pilar Lorenzini (#17). Lorenzini recorded two goals in field hockey's season opening win on Friday.

Thursday, August 27:

Women’s soccer drew 0-0 with the LIU Sharks. The Great Danes tallied 12 total shots, while goalkeeper Claudia Volino made 2 saves to record her first career shutout. UAlbany took 5 corner kicks and was issued 2 yellow cards. 


Men’s soccer won their home opening match 1-0 over the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. The Great Danes would dominate all match long, outshooting the Blue Devils 23-2 with 10 of those being on goal. Graduate defender William Bruce would net the lone goal of the game in the 77th minute with a header from a corner kick to give the team their first win of the season. 



Friday, August 28:

Field Hockey defeated the Hofstra Pride 3-2 in their season opener.  Pilar Lorenzini scored 2 goals including the game winner early in the 4th quarter. Olivia Bell had a pair of assists and goalkeeper Emma Peeters had 2 saves in the victory.


Volleyball went 1-1 in their first matches of the season at the Rocket Invitational hosted by the University of Toledo. The Great Danes would defeat the Saint Francis Red Flash in straight sets 3-0 in their first match of the day.  They would be on the wrong side of a 3-0 decision in the second match of the day, as the host Rockets would dispose of UAlbany in straight sets on homecourt. 



Saturday, August 29:

Volleyball would end their season opening tournament on a high note as they recorded their second sweep of the weekend when they dispatched of the Robert Morris Colonials 3-0 in straight sets. Kendall Harris led the Great Danes with 12 kills while Maria Olga Siapani added 34 assists and an ace. 


Both men's and women’s cross country opened their seasons competing at the Marist season opener in Poughkeepsie. Freshman led the way for both squads as Owen Stachlik and Arianna Verardi were the pace setters for both squads. The men finished 3rd out 5 teams while the Women came in 4th out of 5 teams. 


Football was defeated by the Iowa Hawkeyes 34-7 in their season opener. Quarterback Jack Shields led the way for the offense with 134 passing yards and a touchdown. Thomas Joe-Kamara tallied 13 total tackles on defense to lead UAlbany on the defensive side of the ball. 



Sunday, August 30:


Field Hockey used a strong 2nd half to defeat the Wagner Seahawks 3-1 on the road. Pilar Lorenzini, Indy van Ek and Tessa Overgoor all scored for the Great Danes while Olivia Bell tallied two assists. UAlbany outshot Wagner 11-6 in total and 8-4 in shots on goal. 


Women's soccer fell to the Boston College Eagles by a score of 6-1. Casey Stowell scored the Great Danes lone goal in the 38th minute with an assist from Mariella Fulcher while Claudia Volino recorded nine saves. 


Men’s soccer suffered their first defeat of the season as they fell to the Long Island Sharks by a score of 2-1. Alexander Clive scored the lone UAlbany goal in the 82nd minute. The Great Danes recorded 9 total shots and took 5 corner kicks in the loss.
