The Senate passed five appropriations bills last Wednesday night, regulating funding for student groups.

The bills provided funds to Phi Beta Sigma, Liga Filipina, UAlbany Running Exchange, PB&J (Piano, Band Instruments and Jam), and Alpha Phi Omega.

The groups plan to use the funds for a variety of events and other materials for meetings.

Several senators brought up concerns about the needs of sororities and fraternities due to a lack of funds allocated by their national organizations and Fraternity and Sorority Life at UAlbany causing these groups to request increasing amounts of funds from the Student Association senate.

Student Association Vice President, Ciarra Medrano, stated that “Money is going fast, we need to make sure organizations are adequately using the funds.”

Keon Williams’ nomination for Director of Programming was also passed by unanimous consent.

Finally, the meeting saw a small amendment made by Senator Jeremy Zheng, to correct an error in the Senate bylaws that failed to include the titles of two subcommittees that were last year, the First-Year Experience Subcommittee and Oversight of Government Operations Subcommittee.
