The University at Albany Great Dane volleyball team is poised to make another run at the America East title, with coaches ranking them atop the conference over the University of Hartford Hawks.
In the 2019 season, the last time the team played, the Great Danes played well enough to secure a 15th seed birth in the NCAA tournament against the University at Texas Austin Longhorns, who were ranked as the number two seed in the tournament.
Unfortunately for UAlbany, the Longhorns beat them handily, winning all three sets.
By all measures, the 2019 season was a wild success for the Great Danes.
In the poll, in which coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams, Hartford received the second most votes, with Stony Brook University and New Hampshire, followed by UMBC, Binghamton, and NJIT.
UAlbany is scheduled to begin its spring season Feb. 20 against Sacred Heart.
