Women’s Basketball Announces Departure of Fatima Lee

By Christian Hince | December 16, 2023

University at Albany guard Fatima Lee’s time with the Great Danes has ended, as a Wednesday press release from the athletics department said that Lee is “no longer with the team.”

A fifth-year player, Lee transferred from Providence College after her freshman year in 2019-20, and has averaged 10.3 minutes and 3.2 points per game in her four seasons at UAlbany.

This year Lee averaged 10 points and 18 minutes per game across four contests, last playing in the Albany Cup against Siena on Dec. 2.

When Lee didn’t suit up or appear on bench during UAlbany’s Dec. 9 game against Marist, head coach Colleen Mullen referred to it as “a coach’s decision.”

Lee was one of three fifth-year players on the Great Danes’ roster coming into the season alongside point guard Sarah Karpell and forward Helene Haegerstrand, while Kayla Cooper is the team’s only senior this year.

“Mullen and the program will continue to support [Lee] academically and wish Lee well moving forward,” the press release continued.
