The past week saw the following outcomes for the University at Albany sports:

Tuesday, April 16

Baseball beat Central Connecticut State University 9-7. The Great Danes recorded 11 hits. Will Binder led the team with three hits, two runs and one RBI. Anthony Scarabino also recorded two hits, two runs and three RBI’s. Cam Fuer pitched one inning, recorded two strikeouts and earned the win. The Great Danes improved their record to 5-24.

 

Thursday, April 18

Softball beat Providence College 11-1. The game was called in the seventh inning by the umpires due to rain. The Great Danes recorded eight hits. Morgan Petty led the team with four RBI’s and recorded four hits and one run. Wendi Hammond pitched a complete game, recorded five strikeouts and earned the win. Softball improved their record to 19-10.


Friday, April 19

Track and field competed in the Bobbi Palma UAlbany Spring Classic. The Great Danes won 27 out of the 40 events in the meet. The standout athletes of the meet were Dominique Clarke, Ludith Campos, Antwone Messado, and Jasir Parker. Messado won the men’s 110m hurdles with a personal-best mark of 13.97. Clarke won the women’s 100m with a mark of 11.47. Campos won the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 197-11.00. Parker placed fourth in the men’s long jump with a personal-best mark of 22-11.00 and won the men’s triple jump with a mark of 48-00.00.


Baseball lost to Binghamton 4-3 in extra innings. The Great Danes recorded five hits. John Vitucci led the team with two RBIs, one hit and one run. Dylan Banner pitched 6.0 innings and recorded four strikeouts. The Great Danes fell to a record of 5-25, and 3-9 in conference play.


Men’s Lacrosse lost to Yale 17-10. The Great Danes took 42 shots, with 21 shots on goal and recorded 18 turnovers. Ryan Doherty, Graydon Hogg and Jackson Palumb all led the team with two goals. Silas Richmond, Daniel Kesselring and Parker Emmett all recorded one assist. Goalkeeper Landon Whitney recorded a career-high 16 saves. The Great Danes fell to a record of 5-7.


Saturday, April 20

Track and field competed in the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia. Jared Rogalski placed fifth in the men’s 1,500m with a mark of 3:45.11, which is a personal-best record. Hassan Abidi placed 25th in the men’s 800m with a mark of 1:51.38. Amanda Chambers placed 26th in the women’s 5,000m with a mark of 16:49.61. Steve Hines placed 16th in the men’s 800m with a mark of 1:51.57, which is a personal-best record.


Women’s Lacrosse beat UMass Lowell 10-7 on their Senior Day celebration. The Great Danes took 31 shots, with 21 shots on goal, and recorded 17 turnovers. Megan Dineen led the team with three goals. Goalkeeper Grace Cincebox recorded nine saves. The Great Danes now stand at a record of 5-9, and 4-1 in conference play. With this win, UAlbany clinched a spot for the America East conference playoffs.


Softball beat Binghamton 1-0 in seven innings. The Great Danes recorded four hits. Caitlyn Mitros led the team with one hit and one RBI. Wendi Hammond pitched a complete game, recorded five strikeouts and earned the win. Softball improved their record to 20-10 and improved their conference record to 8-4.


Softball lost to Binghamton 8-2 in seven innings. The Great Danes recorded seven hits. Caitlyn Mitros and Morgan Petty led the team with two hits. Petty also recorded one run. Kate Powers pitched a complete game and recorded two strikeouts. The Great Danes fell to a record of 20-11, and 8-5 in conference play.


Baseball lost to Binghamton 4-0. The Great Danes recorded four hits. Will Binder, John Vitucci, Luke Filippi and Ryan Ferremi all recorded one hit. Cregg Scherrer pitched 5.0 innings and had four strikeouts. The Great Danes fell to a record of 5-26, and 3-10 in conference play.


Sunday, April 21

Women’s golf won the MAAC conference championship. The team finished first with a total of 888 points and 24 over par.  Lucia Esteban led the team with a second-place tie, finishing +1 over par. Katelin Richards finished with a fourth-place tie, finishing +5 over par. Malene Clausen finished in sixth place, +6 over par. The Great Danes will now compete at the NCAA Regional final on May 6.


Softball beat Binghamton 9-0 in five innings. The Great Danes recorded 13 hits. Caityln Mitros and Morgan Petty led the team with three hits. Mitros also recorded three runs and one RBI, and Petty recorded one run and two RBI’s. Wendi Hammond pitched 5.0 innings, recorded three strikeouts and earned the win. The Great Danes now stand at a record of 21-11, and 9-5 in conference play.


Men’s lacrosse beat Merrimack 14-8. The Great Danes took 43 shots and recorded 21 turnovers. Alex Pfeiffer and Parker Emmett led the team with two goals. Silas Richmond led the team with four assists. Goalkeeper Landon Whitney recorded nine saves. The Great Danes now stand at a record of 6-7, and 4-1 in conference play. With this win, UAlbany clinched a spot for the America East conference playoffs.


Baseball fell to Binghamton 11-4. The Great Danes recorded six hits. Connor Eisenmann pitched 4.1 innings and recorded five strikeouts. Matthew Mariano pitched 2.0 innings, recorded one strikeout and was charged with the loss. The Great Danes now stand at a record of 5-27, and 3-11 in conference play.
